Case #1:  The Book of Answers

“Will I find my true love?”, “What should I take in College?” or “Should I study here or abroad?” Gino tells his friends that all these difficult questions about life have answers that can be found in the Bible. He opens the Bible on a random page, closes his eyes and points to a random verse. He exclaims that God answers his question through that particular verse.

Case #2: Written by a Very Good Secretary

Lino shared with his friend. The Bible is a book written by people as God dictates them to do so, just like a boss narrates to his secretary what needs to be written. He wants every word that is written to be exactly the words that he mentioned to the people. Therefore, this book is indeed perfect. Everything written in the Bible directly comes from God and we must follow it word per word.

Case #3: World History Textbook

Gino asked his Social Studies teacher, “Cher, can I use the Holy Bible in my research on the civilizations that fluorished in the Middle East? I heard that there are a lot of political characters there. I think I will be able to get a good historical data of what really happened during that period in that region. Then, I can compare it to what is happening now in Israel and Palestine.”

Case #4: Conflicting Stories

The stories in the Bible are conflicting for Lino. He is already having doubts in reading the Bible because a lot of historical or scientific data do not match nor make sense. For instance, how can the world be created in six days and man to appear on the last day? Why does science say it took billions of years before man came into the picture of creation? Lino believes that the the Bible may lose its credibility because of these mistakes in scientific or factual data.

Case #5: Personal Self-help Book

Gino keeps his Bible by his bedside as a reading material before going to sleep. “This book really speaks to me as if it was really meant for me.” He recommends it for others to have and to read. When asked by a friend if he read it correctly, he said, “Don’t worry. In whichever way you read it, as long as it helps you, inspires you and makes you feel good, it should be correct.”
