How to Survive Cher Mercado’s Formative Assessments

The Formative Assessments compose of the following:

  1. Recitations
    1. Frequency: Every Meeting
    2. Purpose: To help students remember what happened in class in the previous meetings
    3. Structure of recitation:
      1. Memory Questions (Enumeration and definition of terms and key points or themes).
      2. Analysis Questions (Explaining the differences and similarities of the key points or themes discussed).
    4. Tip #1: Take down notes during discussions and lectures so that when you are called, you can simply take out your iPad or notebook and give the answer.
    5. Tip #2: If you don’t know the answer, I will guide you by asking more questions.
    6. Tip #3: Expect follow-up questions if your answers are unsatisfactory.
  2. Size 4 Quizzes
    1. Frequency: Watch out for the Tie!
    2. Purpose: To survey the class’ understanding of the lessons so far.
    3. Structure of quizzes:
      1. Memory Questions (Enumeration and definition of terms and key points or themes).
      2. Analysis Questions (Explaining the differences and similarities of the key points or themes discussed).
    4. Tip #1: Review notes BEFORE lectures begin.
  3. Formative Oral Assessment (FOA)
    1. Frequency: Watch out for the Tie!
    2. Purpose: To test how much you understand segments of the lessons.
    3. Structure of oral formative oral assessment:
      1. Question and Rubrics will be flashed on the screen for 2 minutes.
      2. After randomly calling out a name, student will answer the question in 1 minute. He will not be allowed to take his seat until the 1 minute time limit expires.
      3. Analysis Questions + Synthesis Questions (Making Connections among key terms/points/themes discussed in one particular lesson).
    4. Tip #1: Ask your classmates for clarifications.
    5. Tip #2: Answer only the question being flashed on the board.
    6. Tip #3: Relate the answers to your personal experiences so that it will be easier to explain.
    7. Tip #4: While you’re in front, keep talking. Don’t leave any “dead air.”
OVERALL TIP IN SURVIVING CLE CLASS: CLE this time around is not anymore about memorizing facts and names; it’s about finding its relevance in your personal lives. How you should approach this subject is by remembering that the purpose of CLE for High 2 is to build a relationship with Jesus.

Special mention to the H2H students: kindly submit to me your documents as soon as possible!

For those who claim that they have submitted the documents even if I marked them “No Documents,” furnish me another copy of your baptismal certificate and the filled up confirmand’s sheet (Confrimands Information Sheet). Why is this so? This is so because, as I said, I’ve already double-checked my things and I saw that I don’t your documents at all.

DEADLIEST DEADLINE of submission of these documents: OCTOBER 3, 2012.

My Warmest Regards,

Email Exchange: Problem of Salvation

As a pair, read the statement posted below and answer the following given questions.

One of the foundation beliefs in the Christian religion is that when Jesus was crucified and died on the cross that he died for our sins. For those of you who know me, you know I’m not asking that in some sarcastic manner, I just honestly have never understood what that even means. First of all, Christians also believe that Jesus arose from the dead and that he’s living right now so he really isn’t really dead afterall. So here are a few questions about this situation. If Jesus hadn’t died for our sins and consequently no resurrection, how would that have changed the circumstances of the lives of every human being? What exactly does it mean when Christians say he died for our sins? Are you saying that even though Jesus didn’t commit the sins committed by billions of human beings that it erased their bad behavior and somehow changed the fundamental situation they would be facing and gave them an opportunity for eternal life which they otherwise would not have had? I’ve really never heard anyone explain this whole scenario in simple, easy to understand language that actually makes sense and yet this is one of the core principles of the Christian religion. Can anyone explain this in layman’s terms without quoting the Bible and simply lay out their thoughts in an easy to understand manner?

  2. How do we respond to the two issues?
